Blue Swallow Motel, Tucumcari, New Mexico
Acrylic on canvas
100cm x 50cm
This is the first ‘full size’ painting I’ve done in acrylic paint. The characteristics of the medium meant I had to paint in a different way from using oils. The speed of drying in particular meant that not only could I work much faster, I had to work much faster. The speed made any kind of subtle colour mixing difficult, so I tended to use much stronger colours than I otherwise would, giving the finished picture a ‘pop’ effect, more in keeping with the subject.
