A year ago, I noticed, for the first time, that, at Theatr Clwyd in Mold, there is an annual competition for artists living and working in North Wales. I went and had a look at the pictures on display and decided that I would try to get in this year.
I chose a local subject, Mold Market, and started a large painting (four feet by three feet) which took me about four months to complete. This was going to be my piece to enter the competition!
Soon after I finished it, I did a smaller painting of Princes St in Edinburgh and decided to enter that, too.
My pictures were accepted for the exhibition (if I’m honest, I think it’s fairly easy to get accepted), but didn’t win a prize – which I could hardly expect as there are many more experienced artists, including professionals, in the exhibition. But for two months, my pictures are on view to the public – my first time in a gallery, and, who knows, maybe somebody will buy one.
