Washington Square, NYC
Oil on canvas
59.4cm x 42cm
This was a commission with a very specific, but also very open, brief; a small painting (it’s about half the size I would normally paint a subject like this) of somewhere recognisably in New York City, with greenery.
My first thought was to paint a view of Central Park, but I couldn’t get enthused by that, then I thought of this, the very recognisable Washington Square Arch, symbol of Greenwich Village, at the bottom of Fifth Avenue.
