‘No,’ I said, ‘I don’t paint dogs. Sorry.’
I really have no idea about dogs, I wouldn’t know where to begin trying to paint a picture of one, and I didn’t want to agree to do something that wasn’t a success, because that would disappoint the person who asked.
In the end, I decided I would have a go on the condition it might turn out to be a disaster and could be written off. It turned out better than I expected.
