Monument Valley
Oil on canvas
90cm x 60cm
So, I thought, after all those buildings and people and windows and that purple taxi, something simple, straightforward, natural, elemental.
Ha! This proved to be much more difficult than I thought. Although it’s a real place; a place I’ve visited, taken dozens of photos of – I even stayed in the Valley overnight – it looks like an abstract, rather than figurative, painting. So little of it can be related to what we’re used to seeing; even the vegetation is ‘different’.
Anyway, I persevered, and it’s finished…and didn’t finish me.
