Home to Carlisle
Oil on canvas
90cm x 60cm

This picture shows Accrington Stanley at home to Carlisle on a mild January day in 2017. I took loads of photos over several games until I managed to find enough information to make a stab at representing a game. Without any doubt, the hardest part was painting the crowd – Carlisle are very well supported! The result was a one all draw.

Update

This is a photo of me giving my painting to the club chairman, the great Andy Holt. Somehow, he had seen another painting of mine and said that he liked it, so I offered him this. It’s been gathering dust since I painted it and I wanted it to go to a good home.

I arranged to drop it off at the club reception before the first friendly game of the season (against Premier League Huddersfield Town, which we won, in style, 3-0!). Unfortunately, I got stuck in motorway traffic and by the time I got to the club, his visit was imminent, so I was urged to wait for him. What had started out as me leaving a picture to go on a wall turned into a presentation with me ‘donating’ the picture. Crazy. Anyway, it was nice to meet him, he’s a great bloke. I have no idea what my facial expression is trying to convey…

Andy Holt and a bemused-looking artist…

Andy has had the painting framed, it really enhances it.
